Am I covered if my bags have been damaged?
This information is for residents of Helpdesk Global only.
Yes, your policy can help if your baggage turns up and it's been damaged by the common carrier. You can make a claim for your damaged baggage and personal effects provided they are owned by you and you have taken all reasonable measures to protect the property at all times.
The maximum amount you can claim for damage to your baggage and personal effects and the per item limits depends on which plan you buy eg Standard or Explorer.
What you need to do to make a claim
- notify the liable common carrier of the damage as soon as possible and obtain written confirmation that your baggage has been damaged
- provide evidence of the damage to support your claim (the claims department will discuss with you what is required as proof depending on the nature of the damaged item).
What's not covered
Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the full description of cover in the Travel Protection Plan for full details on what’s not covered.
Here are the main things that aren't covered for damage:
- musical instruments
- brittle or fragile items
- wear and tear or gradual deterioration
