What is the travel insurance policy excess/deductible?

As we've recently changed our insurer, please select the date you bought your policy:

Policies purchased on or after 1 August 2019
Policies purchased between 1 November 2018 and 31 July 2019
Policies purchased before 1 November 2018

For policies purchased on or after 1 August 2019:

Your policy mentions two kinds of excess:

  • A time excess is the period of time you have to wait before certain kinds of cover are available.

  • A policy excess is an amount of money that is deducted from any claim payouts.

Depending on what you claim for, the policy excess is applied per person, per insured event. This excess may be deducted from any payouts, or you may have to pay the excess before a claim is payable to you. Sorry, it's not possible to buy out the excess. The summary of cover in your policy wording lists the policy benefits and the excesses that apply to each.
