  • Please note that our policy does not cover motorbike touring or using a motorbike as your main mode of transport while abroad;
  • This cannot be added, even for an additional premium. Add 'motorbiking' (includes scooters) to your list of sports and activities when buying your travel insurance;
  • Additional restrictions apply based on the type of riding (on-road, off-road, trail biking, etc.) and the size of the bike/engine.

Adding motorbike and scooter activities to your policy

To get cover for riding a motorbike or scooter, list all the sports and activities you plan to try on your trip when purchasing your policy. Please note that changes cannot be made after your policy is issued.

Safety precautions and requirements

To be eligible for coverage while riding a motorbike or scooter, you must take the necessary safety precautions, including:

  • Wearing a helmet.
  • Obeying local road rules.
  • Holding a valid motorbike license in both the UK and the local country for the size of bike/engine you'll be operating. Different cc machines may require different licenses and levels of coverage under the policy.

Medical transport and repatriation

Subject to our approval, the medical transport and repatriation benefits are payable for up to a maximum of 12 months from the date the sudden illness first manifested or the injury occurred. If an incident occurs, immediately contact our 24/7 Emergency Assistance team and maintain contact until you no longer require treatment or assistance.

Payment for medical treatment depends on the circumstances and necessary treatment required. It may involve your upfront payment with later reimbursement or direct payment by us, depending on the situation.

While our travel insurance provides extensive coverage, it's important to be aware of what's not covered. Take the time to read the policy wording, including the terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions. Here are some key exclusions:

  • Theft or damage to the motorbike or scooter, whether owned, borrowed, or rented,
  • Personal liability while riding or operating the motorbike;
  • Unattended belongings with the motorbike;
  • Riding a motorbike at a professional level (paid or sponsored);
  • Participating in international motor sports event.
